Last weekend my younger son went to the Vikos Gorge and Meteora. Those places are near my hometown ,so he visited his grandparents and he went for another time to see this beautiful natural !
Some information from this site :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vikos_Gorge
The Vikos Gorge (Greek:Φαράγγι του Βικου ) is a gorge in Pindus Mountains of northern Greece. It lies on the southern slopes of Mount Tymfi , with a length of about 20km ,depth ranging from 450m to 1600 m to some metres at its narrowest.Vikos is listed as the deepest gorge in the world by the Guinness Book of Records among others. This follows a somewhat arbitrary definicion of a gorge that excludes deeper features such as Colca Canyon of their greater width : depth ratio .
My son took these photos .
METEORA |
These photos from my son's camera .....
Informations from this site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meteora
The Meteora (Greek :Μετέωρα , "suspended rocks " , "suspended in the air " or " in the heavens above "
etymologically similar to "Meteorite" ) is one of the largest and most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece , second only to Mount Athos. The six monasteries are built on natural sandstone rocks pillars , at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly near the Pineios river and Pindus Mountains , in central Greece. The nearest town is Kalampaka. The Meteora is included on the
UNESCO World Heitage List under criteria . This photo is from the same site ..
Two beautiful places from many -many of Greece !
Have a wonderful day !!
Hello Olympia:
ΑπάντησηΔιαγραφήWhat very spectacular scenery. We must, must visit Greece!
Dear Jane and Lance
ΔιαγραφήThese sites are located in mainland Greece, west and at the center. If you have not visited Greece, the plan must be in summer months to see the islands. But I think you need a lot of summers to see the natural beauty of the country and all the islands (Santorini,Crete,Corfu, Rodos , Mukonos ,Tinos......).
Olympia

Hello dear Olympia,
ΑπάντησηΔιαγραφήI hope you're having a wonderful day!
These photos are amazing!!! What a beautiful place to visit and photograph. My hubby would love to see this and so would I. He loves to photograph places like this, I like to soak in the joy of seeing such grandeur!
Hugs, Cindy
Dear Cindy
ΔιαγραφήReally they are impressive parts of the mainland. I think awe every time I visit them , think about the greatness of nature and "how small "we are as people.
Olympia
Dearest Olympia,
ΑπάντησηΔιαγραφήThat is a beautiful gorge where you son went and he took great photos.
The monastery is incredible, sitting that high on top of the natural sandstone rocks. How in the world did they ever transport all the rocks up to the top. Guess on the back of goats and donkeys. Hard labor but they left the world a gift for thousands of years.
Hugs and love,
Mariette
Beautiful!!! Thanks for the visit and your sweet comment :) Laurel
ΑπάντησηΔιαγραφήThese photos are wonderful of an amazing part of your country. The Vikos Gorge is so beautiful. I love the colour of the water and the majestic mountains.
ΑπάντησηΔιαγραφήThe Meteora is amazing. The monks must have felt very secure in those monasteries so high and difficult to reach. It would be like living in another world.
Your references were very interesting.
The scenery in your country is breathtaking and your son has done a wonderful job photographing these places.
Sorry this is late, but I wanted to read the references first:)
I visited these places many years ago. There are absolutely wonderful!Nice blog.
