Saturday Market

Every Saturday in my  neighbourhood is the largest flea market  in Thessaloniki.
We shop the vegetables and fruits of the week .
But  my  greatest joy is when I go on the road with flowers.
                                                          candy and nuts
                                                          potatoes and garlic
                                                   many strawberries ................
                                              cheese ,yogurt ,  cake sheets
                                                    all kinds of olive ....
                                                     for planting tomatoes ..............
eggplants and pepper for planting .......

                                             the bench with herbs .......
ceramics ,soil .garden items.........
this way makes me feel like a small child in front of chocolates...
I look at the benches with flowers and I want to buy all...

climbing geraniums ,  we saying "mastic"
                                           geraniums "black eye "

                                                   bouquets roses .............
Another way they sell curtains and household items..

The surrounding streets are outdoor coffee shops but today I was not for coffee.
But the truth is that I got  home  with all necessary shopping  and with enough
flowers for planting . The pleasure was great and  next post will show the results !!

  2. Hello Olympia:
How we should love this. Indeed, wild horses, as we say, would not keep us away. And apart from the wonderful colours and the obvious hustle and bustle of buying and selling, what absolutely splendid variety. Something for everyone most certainly.

  5. Olympia... I love the cheese stall! I could spend a lot of money there. I jusy wish I could close my eyes and fly to a quiet Greek Island, just to escape the rain and the grey sky. It's been raining for days, non stop... day and night...

  6. What a wonderful market! I love it! Such a variety of lovely food, flowers and all goods. Of course, like you I would like to buy many pots of plants, there are so many! The climbing geraniums are very pretty. I'm looking forward to seeing your pots when you have planted.
Thank you for the comment on my blog about Gallipoli. You have been there! Many Australians visit every year. There were Greek Veterans marching in the parade too.
Hope you have a wonderful week. It is Monday morning here and it's cold!!

  10. Hello dear Olympia,
what a wonderful market place! I have never seen anything quite like it, it's so very large.
I have never seen climbing geraniums either, they must be a different variety than what we grow here in Canada.
    Have a lovely week,
    Hugs, Cindy

  11. Dear Olympia, Thank you for your comment on my yesterday's post. I guess in your place it is hot and sunny - here it is cold and cloudy and rainy. So these photos of Italy are good for one's soul! Happy day, CHrista

  12. Olympia,
These pictures made me so happy, and I enjoyed looking at all the booths at the marketplace. That is wonderful that you have something like this every Saturday. When Jess went to Greece, she went to a marketplace similar to this, and she had the most wonderful time. I love all the pictures here - the strawberries, the olives, the red flowers, and just the people living and loving life. Oh, I am so filled with joy to be part Greek. Thank you for sharing these wonderful pictures. And thank you for your comments. They are always so lovely.

The photos of your village market place is so inviting. All sorts of lovely fresh vegetables and clothes ..how exciting.
It looks as though you are having better weather than we are.
The rain will be with us for the rest of the week.
I hope your 1st of may was a happy day.
